LOS NIÑOS NACEN PARA SER FELICES." José Martí

In the Hispanic culture, where the extended family is still an important supportive social institution, the traditional Hispanic children's repertoire has long been used to teach and entertain small children.

Among the selections included in our albums you will find lullabies (Los pollitos), rhymes that accompany games (Al ánimo), educational songs (Allá en el fondo del mar salado) and of course...wolf songs (Juguemos en el bosque)!, which seems to be the favorite character with children.

These albums have their illustrated lyric booklets and their respective activities book full of suggestions for use in the elementary school classroom. We have also put together a lead sheet book for the Music Teacher in case he or she, and the Foreign Language teacher might be interested in doing an activity together or presenting a show th parents!

Going back to our very musically priviledged childhood we realized, there was a vast wealth of this material waiting to be rescued from near oblivion. Because Hispanic commercial record labels have other priorities that unfortunately not always include quality material for children, a vacuum has long existed that has been filled gradually by entertainment music that is foreign to Hispanic culture. The result has been that the Hispanic child is recognizing less and less the music of his own culture.

In 1995, Grupo CAÑAVERAL began to develop an anthology of traditional Hispanic children's music to address the needs of the bilingual child, especially those that have been born of Hispanic parents in non-Hispanic countries.

Although Grupo CAÑAVERAL's initial motivation for recording this music was the Hispanic child and his self-esteem, this repertoire, much to our delight, has been enthusiastically accepted by everyone alike. The cultural impact of their presentations has brought innumerable requests for them to perform for children of all ethnic backgrounds and races.

All of the albums included in this series have the following specifications:
